오늘의 영어는 숫자읽기 입니다. 여기 제테크 모임은 돈,숫자등을 다루는 경우가 많으니 수를 영어로 읽을수 있다면 좋겠죠?

자, 아래의 수를 영어로 읽어보세요.

 

123,456,789

 

= one hundred and twenty-three million, four hundred and
     fifty-six thousand, seven hundred and eighty-nine (1억 2천 3백 45만 6천 7백 89)

    이를 直譯하면 「123 million, 456 thousand, 789」가 된다. 곧, 英語에서는
  「일, 십, 백」이되어 세 자리마다 호칭이 바뀐다《thousand,  million》.

♣ 숫자를 세 개씩 묶어서 끊는 것은 그 때문이다. 우리말에서는「일, 십, 백, 천」까지의
    호칭이 반복되어 네 자리마다《만, 억, 조》호칭이 바뀌므로 1만 이상에서는
    호칭 법이 우리말과 英語는 달라진다.

 ⅱ) 1,100이나 1,800에서와 같이 네 자리 수로 마지막 두 자리가 0인 것은 one thousand
    one (eight) hundred 라고 말하나 종종 eleven (eighteen) hundred 와 같이 100을 단위로
    한  간결한 표현법이 쓰인다.

    100                     백    = 10² = a /one hundred
    1,000                   천    = 10³ = a /one thousand
    10,000                 만     = 10⁴ = ten thousand
    100,000               십만  = 10⁵ = a /one hundred thousand

    10,000,000           천만  = 10⁷ = ten million(s)
    100,000,000          억     = 10⁸ = a /one hundred million(s)
    1,000,000,000       십억  = 10⁹ = a /one billion    영】a /one thousand millions
    10,000,000,000     백억  = 10¹⁰ = ten billions    【영】ten thousand millions
    100,000,000,000    천억  = 10¹¹ = a /one hundred billions【영】one hundred thousand millions
    1,000,000,000,000  조    = 10¹² = a /one trillion  【영】a /one bullion

 

☞ 10억 이상의 수 (영·미의 표현) 

  10억 이상에서는 다음과 같이 영·미에서 각기 달리 말한다.
