Korean Food

A diverse foods and dishes can be found throughout Korea.
Various fermented and preserved food, such as kimchi (fermented spicy cabbage), jeotgal (matured seafood with salt) and doenjang (fermented soy bean paste) are notable for their specific flavor and high nutritional value.
The prominent feature of a Korean table setting is that all dishes are served at the same time. 
 

 

Table Manners

Koreans eat rice and broths with their spoons and the side dishes with their chopsticks. The spoon and chopsticks are never placed left or on top of rice, because doing so symbolizes food and utensils to be used by the dead. 

 

Restaurants

Regardless of region, everywhere in Korea, there are Korean, Chinese, western and Japanese restaurants. When you enter the stores, wait for the owner to show you where to sit, and order from the menu. Korean meals are not served in courses.  

 

Drinking Etiquette

Alcoholic drinks (sul) are very much enjoyed by Koreans. Korean’s popular drinks are traditional alcoholic drinks which is called soju in Korean, a distilled drink made from sweet potatoes, rice, random cereals, and molasses, it is 23-25% alcohol, beer and western alcoholic drinks that is called yangiu.

 

Korean Culture

Confucianism, a system of ethics developed in China around 500 BC. Confucianism shows devotion and respect – for parents, family, friends and those in positions of authority.

 

Korean Society

Korean society is very work and education orientated. From an early age, Koreans go to educational institutes or academy which is called hagwon for their extracurricular education outside of School. It is vital for high school students to get into a good university as the university attended will affect the rest of their lives.
